Carole Minor
Encore Communications President Carole Minor is an award-winning communications professional with more than 30 years of experience in marketing, public relations, employee communications, crisis management and corporate writing.
Founding Encore in 1990 as a full-service marketing communications and public relations firm, Carole specializes in strategic marketing planning and positioning, media relations, crisis communication programs, and a wide variety of written communications. During her career, she has spearheaded national product launches, branding campaigns and crisis response programs that get results. A natural gas storage client's branding, media relations and advertising campaign that she led helped take the company from a $5 million start-up to a $750 million acquisition target in seven years.
She has worked with a diverse client base, including AeroMexico, Anadarko, Boeing NASA Systems, Continental Airlines, Energy Solutions International, Falcon Gas Storage Company, Forum Energy Technologies, IBM, OpenLink, Peregrine Midstream Partners, Ranger Steel, Sapient, Southern Company, SunGard, Sybase, Tenneco, The Energy Authority, The Morgan Group and Ziff Energy Group.
Carole started her career in the financial services industry in 1975 with Southwest Bancshares, Inc. Joining Texas International Airlines in 1977 as employee communications manager, she spent the next 13 years in the airline industry. In 1979, she was recruited by American Airlines' Sky Chefs subsidiary to become corporate communications director, where she successfully reshaped the inflight catering company's communications effort into an award-winning program with media relations, branding, advertising and employee communications.
In 1983, Continental Airlines recruited Carole to create a new internal communications program, as well as assist with crisis communications, following the airline's bankruptcy filing and workforce reduction. While at Continental, she created the award-winning crisis communications program after the airline's 1987 aircraft accident in Denver and staged the New York City press conference announcing the merger of Continental, New York Air and PeopleExpress using $5 million in actual cash to represent consumer savings from the merger.
Carole propelled Encore into the Top 100 Private Companies Making the Greatest Impact on Houston during the first decade after founding the company and was named Communicator of the Year for 1994-1995 by the Houston Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. The recipient of more than 40 awards for writing and communication programs during her career, she gave herself permission to stop entering awards competitions in 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in English.
In addition to being a longtime member of the International Association of Business Communicators, Carole is a member of the Advisory Board of Directors for Child Advocates, Inc. and the Editorial Advisory Board of The Oil & Gas Financial Journal.
